Several months of planning preceded last weekend before Ballfreunde, a tournament organiser from Germany, was able to see the infrastructure and organisational skills of FC Hertha Wels for themselves. The tournament weekend started with an atmospheric opening ceremony and the flag-raising of the teams taking part in the tournament under the flag of a European Championship participant. Almost 70 teams in the age categories U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 took part in the excellently organised tournament. The teams from FC Hertha Wels also played in this tournament and almost won the tournament in the U9 category. It was only in the penalty shoot-out of the final that the Wels team, who took part in the tournament as Italy, were beaten by the Portuguese. The U10s also made an excellent showing with third place.
The Austria Cup is not a one-off event!
Peter Huliak, club manager of FC Hertha Wels, was delighted: "A fantastic weekend with great matches, lots of smiling children's faces, but also a lot of work lies behind us. A big thank you goes to the Ballfreunde, who were able to celebrate an outstanding tournament premiere with us in the Huber Arena. A huge thank you also goes to our helpers in the foreground and background, without whom a tournament of this magnitude would not have been possible. In total, we had over 1,500 spectators every day over the three days, were able to take care of all the catering and even allowed five teams to camp at the Huber Arena. Exhausted, but also euphoric, we agreed with the Ballfreunde right after the weekend that the Austria Cup 2024 should not be a one-off event, but should become a fixture in the tournament calendar in the future."
