The Southwest German Football Association (SWFV) is one of the 21 regional associations of the German Football Association (DFB) and is responsible for organised football in Rhineland-Palatinate. Founded in 1949, the SWFV represents over 600 clubs with around 170,000 members and promotes amateur and youth football in the region. The association's tasks include the organisation and staging of competitions and tournaments, the promotion of popular and competitive sport and the training of coaches, referees and officials. The SWFV attaches great importance to the promotion of young talent and supports numerous youth programmes in order to secure the next generation of footballers. Among other things, the association oversees the highest league in the association's territory, the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar, and is divided into districts and counties in order to organise match operations efficiently. The SWFV is also involved in areas such as integration, fair play and supporting social initiatives.
